Hello and welcome to this month’s Clique Kits Pep Rally! You should be arriving here from Leeann’s blog! I’m sure she had some amazing projects to share!
I admit when I opened my box I had a moment of panic as to how I was going to use it..it is very bright pink and purple, and while gorgeous, it did pose a little bit of a problem. It is a VERY feminine kit..and I am surrounded by boys. Both my children are boys…even the dogs are boys…oh my! And there is only so many scrapbook pages I could create about myself.I admit, I did consider just going on a card-making spree with this kit.
But, instead, I thought I would talk to all you scrapbookers out there like me, who are surrounded by boys. Sometimes the very idea of joining a kit club can seem a little daunting because there are always those kits that are covered in pink and glitter.
So here are 3 tips to help you tackle those boy pages with feminine kits…and 3 layouts that I created using this kit. Don’t be scared! Subscribe to those kit clubs you love and use those kits with your boys!
TIP #1- INSTEAD OF COLOR,LOOK AT MOTIFS!
When I sat down and looked at the kit, I noticed lots of summer fruit motifs…including watermelon. My boys LOVE watermelon and they often eat a whole one during the summer all at once…just the two of them! And I had watermelon photos! So I grabbed all those watermelon embellishments, the really bright pink paper that coordinated and started creating! For my background paper, I chose this one with little purple hearts because I thought they resembled watermelon seeds…and then I could use some pops of purple around my layout. I also used one of the cut files this month as a stitching template and created an eye-catching title…that resembles a watermelon.
TIP #2- LOOK AT THE COLORS IN YOUR PHOTOS
While my boys will never be caught wearing pink or purple…I’ve tried numerous times…playing with the big pink ice cream cone floaty at the pool was perfectly acceptable..
TIP #3- TURN PHOTOS B&W-
For my 3rd layout I chose these photos..my son is wearing a bright, bright, red shirt in the photo but by turning it B&W I could scrap it using the Cocoa Vanilla products and some of my stash to create a soft layout-
If you subscribe to my You Tube channel, there will be a process video to go with this layout uploaded later today!
I hope you have enjoyed these projects I created using the RIO kit! If you are a mom of boys, I’d love to hear some of your tips for scrapping your boys!
